And right now I'm really, really ANGRY!
Okay, just to tell you first: I'm no racist. Not even the slightest bit. I may even be one of the un-racistest people in excistence (okay, I don't know how un-racist you can get, but I'm pretty close to the limit or something, you get the picture). Okay, let's repeat it one more time: I'm no racist.
And I'm German. The odds!
Did you sense the underlying sarcasm in that phrase? Or does it fit whatever prejudices you have? It does? Well, then let me tell you that you're at least three times as racist as most Germans are.
Today I read a profile on the Internet and well, now I'm ranting about racism. Do you get the connection? Okay, so let me tell you, it was on a German site and the user stated somewhere:
Staatsangehörigkeit: deutsch (keine Angst bin net rassistisch)
Nationality: German (never fear, I'm not racist)
Yeah, of course, 'cause when you're German you're automatically a racist if you don't tell otherwise. That's why I told you earlier in this entry, just in case.
Now, it isn't the person that makes me angry, not in the least, it's more the realisation that apparently you have to apologize when you're German. 'Cause it is what you get taught since first class: Our country is racist, you have to watch out or you will become it yourself. And please don't tell anyone you like your home country, it could be understood the wrong way.
And now I'm telling you what: I like where I live. I like Germany, it is my favourite country and I would never wish I'd be born somewhere else. I like its language and I like its culture. However I do not like the faults that were made and all those murders that were commited. I do not like two worldwars and I do not like when I see posters from the "NPD" on the street.
But you know, it just isn't quite the same. I can be proud of one while I hate the other.
Thanks for reading. And hopefully for thinking.
